Chapter 3 – Page 178
If you don’t follow me on Tumblr or Twitter, I shared a pretty important post regarding the states of both of my comics. I hope you read it, and understand my feelings and what I’m going through. FR has one more page in its buffer before this hiatus begins. After next week, it’ll be a while before FR updates again. I’m sorry, and I feel pretty terrible about this.
What is it with webcomic artists and feeling sorry about going on hiatus? Just don’t! Sure we readers will miss your comic for a little while (or a long while, but no worries). It would be sad if we didn’t. But I don’t think many of us are dependent on a single webcomic to get a weekly fix… nope, it is a daily need, and there are most definitely many good ones to choose from!
And we will be back when you are back, your comics sure are good enough to be worth the wait! (And then some, even if you’d go on a multi-year hiatus, if you ask me. Also, by then I’d have an income and I’d be signing up for your patreon.) And to be perfectly frank, do remember that the alternative is a dark and bleak thing that we readers would hate if you let it happen.
What I’m trying to say is this: a reasonable viewer will endorse a hiatus, and while a somewhat apologetic tone in the announcement might make sense, you should ABSOLUTELY NOT feel sorry about it. Or else it will just take you longer to heal! And we don’t want that either! We’re kind of in the same boat here, except the artist has a severe need (of a break) and the readers don’t have remotely as severe needs in the matter.
Now have a nice break, without any remorse or angst about us. Build your buffer back up when and as you feel like it, then come back feeling secure and happy! That is the best thing to do!
I see Carmen is as bubbly as ever. 🙂
As for the hiatus, you don’t owe us anything, so there’s nothing to feel terrible about. You’re making comics for free, and I enjoy reading them as well as others do, but if anyone’s rushing you and demanding that you make more, they’re completely out of place. Your life comes first.
I will appreciate it if you can let us know how things are going once in a while, but take your time. And take care.
